GAINESVILLE, Fla. & WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 2, 2022) – Howard University men's and women's track & field program closed out the weekend with solid performances at the Pepsi Florida Relays, hosted by the Gators, and Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary.
PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS
Seniors
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and
Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) and freshmen
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and
Lamaria Washington (Miami) highlighted Saturday's action, placing fourth in the 4x100 relay with a new school record (45.04).
Individually, senior
Ozioma Scott (Georgetown, Guyana) competed in the 400-meter dash where she earned ninth overall with a 54.78 time.
On the men's side, graduate
Dylan Beard (Severn, Md.) and
Kameron Davis (Miami) took part in the 110-meter hurdles race, claiming seventh (14.20) and 12
th (14.61), respectively.
COLONIAL RELAYS
Senior
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.), juniors
Richard Ninamou (Louisville) and
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and sophomore
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) won the 4x100 relay event, producing a 41.04 mark.
Individually, Hawkins and newcomer
Eric Brown, Jr. competed in the 110-meter hurdles where they placed second (14.26) and 10
th (15.18), respectively.
In the men's field events, third-year Bison
Christopher Bratcher (Richmond, Va.) finished fourth overall in the discus throw, tossing nearly 135 feet (41.05 meters).
For the women, junior
Monika Williams (Denver) took fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.80) while rookie
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) claimed 10
th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.77).
In the field, senior
Diana Effiom (Dallas) earned the bronze medal in the discus, throwing over 135 feet (41.19 meters), while freshman
Nikayla Fitzgerald (Kyle, Texas) placed fourth in the triple jump, leaping nearly 38 feet (11.48 meters).
