WASHINGTON (September 7, 2018) – After hosting their first cross country meet in more than two decades, Director of Track and Field
David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Cross Country teams' season continues in Virginia at the James Madison (JMU) Invitational.
The JMU Cross Country Invitational will take place at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Virginia. The men's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the women will take off at 10:45 a.m.
LAST TIMEOUT
Saturday (Sept. 1), the Bison opened their 2018 campaign by hosting the Howard University Labor Day Classic at Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C. The men placed first overall while the women finished runner-up.
Senior
Tariq Fullerton (Kingston, Jamaica) and sophomore
Destiny Stanford (Woolwhich Township, N.J.) led the way, each winning their respective races.
MEET PREVIEW
After a successful opening weekend, Director Oliver and the Bison ride momentum into Virginia.
On the men's side, seven Bison finished in the top 10, led by Fullerton with a 16:20.51 mark. Freshmen
Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) came in second, clocking in at 16:30.49.
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.),
Anthony Gordon (Clinton, Md.) and
Humberto Gonzalez (Perris, Calif.) took fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, while
Aaron Coates (Washington) and
Matthew Marchbanks (Chicago) rounded out the top 10.
For the women, Stanford won with a victory time of 20:00.45. Newcomers
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.),
Essence Baker (South Brunswick, N.J.), and junior
Sydney Benson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) also posted top 10 finishes, placing fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Sept. 22, HU resumes competition in Princess Anne, Md. at the Eastern Shore Invitational. First race begins 10:30 a.m.
