NORFOLK, Va. (April 14, 2026) – The MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) uncovered its men's tennis weekly honors where Howard University saw a pair of Bison sweep the league's honors. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
Junior
Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) was named MEAC Player of the Week while fellow Bison freshman
Alexander Monagan (Natchez, Miss.) earned Rookie of the Week.
Major went 2–1 in singles competition, serving as the club's top singles player. The Bahamian native defeated Temple's Maj Najvirt Kolaric and Coppin State's Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov in straight sets. He also posted a 2–1 doubles record with wins over Coppin State and Navy.
Monagan went 2–0 in singles play, competing in the No. 6 position. The Mississippi product also added a doubles victory to finish the week undefeated in both singles and doubles.
On the women's side, freshman standout
Franchesca Brown (Atlanta) received honorable mention after going a perfect 1-0 in singles competition and 2-0 in doubles play.
North Carolina Central senior Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was selected MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week while Norfolk State freshman Yana Klimchuk grabbed Women's Rookie of the Week.
On April 23-25, HU (1-13, 1-4 MEAC) goes to Cary, N.C., for the MEAC Championships.
