Men’s Tennis Upsets No. 4 Morgan State, Advances to MEAC Semifinals

Bison dominate doubles, power past Bears in quarterfinal clash

CARY, N.C. (April 23, 2026) – No. 5-seeded Howard University men's tennis delivered a statement victory Thursday afternoon, defeating No. 4 Morgan State in the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Quarterfinals at Cary Tennis Park.

Howard set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point.

Sophomore Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta) and Second Team All-MEAC selection junior Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) rolled to a commanding 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles while freshman Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) and junior Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) secured the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.

Carrying that momentum into singles play, the Bison clinched the match behind dominant performances at the top of the lineup.

McIntosh-Ross continued his stellar day with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2) while Major matched that effort with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Weekes sealed the team victory with a gritty three-set triumph at No. 3 singles, bouncing back after dropping the second set to earn a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 decision.

Junior Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) competed at No. 4 singles while Lash and freshman Nathan Bermeo (Durham, N.C.) rounded out the lineup at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

With the win, Howard advances to the MEAC Semifinals where the Bison will face MEAC Regular Season Champion and top-seeded South Carolina State Friday (April 24) at noon.
