Men’s Tennis Season Ends in MEAC Semifinals

Bison fall to top-seeded Bulldogs

CARY, N.C. (April 24, 2026) – No. 5-seeded Howard University men's tennis saw its MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship run come to a close Friday afternoon, falling to No. 1 seed South Carolina State (SCSU), 4-0, in the semifinal round at Cary Tennis Park.

SCSU secured the early advantage by claiming the doubles point, taking victories at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

The pairing of junior Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta) battled at No. 1 doubles while junior Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Nathan Bermeo (Durham, N.C.) competed at No. 3.

Howard showed fight in singles play, highlighted by freshman Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom), who opened strong at the No. 3 spot by taking the first set, 6-3, before his match went unfinished.

McIntosh-Ross competed at No. 1 singles while Major battled at the No. 2 position, but both fell in straight sets as South Carolina State clinched the match. Bermeo also competed at No. 6 singles in the setback.

Howard concludes its season after an impressive postseason push that included an upset victory over No. 4 Morgan State in the quarterfinal round.

Bison Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew and Associate Head Coach Zach Tobias look to reload for the upcoming 2027 campaign in the program's pursuit for another MEAC title.
