NORFOLK, Va. (May 14, 2022) – Howard University men's track & field squad finished the 2022 outdoor season on a high note, taking second place at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships after scoring 163.5 points in the three-day event (May 12-14).
On Championship Saturday, three Bison won individual titles.
After missing last season, senior
Mekhi Abbott (Monroe, N.J.) returned to the mountain top after winning the javelin with a mark of 60.41 meters. The New Jersey native won the title in his freshman year (2019).
Third-year Bison
Christopher Bratcher (Richmond, Va.) took home the league's hammer throw crown, tossing 46.61 meters. Fellow classmate
Ezra Monteiro (New Port, R.I.) finished runner-up after recording a mark of 46.42 meters.
On the track, graduate
Dylan Beard (Severn, Md.) captured the 110-meter hurdles title (13.71) after edging out teammate senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) by two-hundredths of a second (13.73).
Senior
Kameron Davis (Miami) competed in the 400-meter hurdles where he earned bronze in the event, clocking in at 53.02.
Fellow classmate
Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) secured a pair of third-place finishes in the 1500-meter (3:59.23) and 5000-meter (16:03.50).
The top three finishers in each event were named to the All-MEAC Team.
Norfolk State won its first outdoor title since 2012 after scoring 192.5 points.
After finishing runner up during the indoor and outdoor seasons, Howard Director of Track & Field
David Oliver and the program look to build on this year's success as they continue their pursuit of MEAC Championships.
