NORFOLK, Va. (May 13, 2022) – Howard University men's track and field team moved up two spots after day two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships.
Currently, HU sits in second place after seven events, tallying 50.5 points.
Senior
Nathaniel Are (Chicago) headlined day two for the Bison, winning the decathlon with 5547 points. Sophomore
Ezekiel Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) and rookie
Eric Brown, Jr. also competed where they took third (5308 points) and fifth (5277 points), respectively. Collectively, the Bison trio accounted for 21 points on the afternoon.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned fourth overall after registering a 9:49.53 mark. The Virginia native scored five points for Howard.
In the field, junior throwers
Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) and
Christopher Bratcher (Richmond, Va.) combined for nine points after finishing fourth (15.00 meters) and fifth (14.84 meters), respectively, in the shot put.
Four Bison advanced to Championship Saturday (May 14) in the 110-meter hurdles, led by graduate
Dylan Beard (Severn, Md.) and senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) receiving automatic qualifying times of 14.21 and 14.25, respectively. Sophomore
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) and senior
Kameron Davis (Miami) also reached the final round with marks of 14.50 and 14.84, respectively.
Saturday's final is set for 1:50 p.m.
Newcomer
Kaleb Berry (Duncanville, Texas) made the 800-meter final after running a non AQ time of 1:54.84.
Saturday's 800-meter run final is scheduled for 2:35 p.m.
Norfolk State holds a 32-point lead over the Bison with one day remaining. North Carolina Central sits in third place with 39 points, followed by Morgan State (33 points).
Championship Saturday will begin at 10 a.m., with the women's pole vault, men's triple jump and women's javelin throw. Running events commence at 1 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay. The 4x400-meter relays will wrap up proceedings, with the women going at 4:35 and the men at 4:55 p.m.
Saturday's track action will be streamed live on the
MEAC Digital Network via YouTube at 1 p.m.
