WASHINGTON (April 2, 2021) – Howard University Tennis is set for a full slate of contests on Easter weekend, starting Friday (April 2) when the Bison host Norfolk State (NSU) at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus (WTEF) for Senior Day. The next day (April 3), the women travel to Dover, Del., to face Delaware State (DSU). Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m.
SENIOR DAY
Before Friday's contest, Director of Tennis
Nicholas Askew and the program will recognize seniors
Roger Lyn (Kingston, Jamaica) and
Aria Ragas (John's Creek, Ga.) for their hard work and dedication.
The brief ceremony takes place at approximately 12:45 p.m. and friends and family can watch live on the athletics' Instagram page (

MATCHUP PREVIEWS
HOWARD
Both clubs enter the weekend looking to grab their first wins of the season.
On the men's side, sophomore
Romani Mayers (Bridgetown, Barbados) secured his first collegiate singles victory against Mount St. Mary's (Thursday 25) while the freshmen trio of
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.),
Gabe Knowles (Wind Gap, Pa.) and
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans) had a strong outing in their collegiate debuts.
For the women, sophomores
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) and
Hana El Sherif (Cairo, Egypt) served as the team's top singles players in their last outing against George Washington (March 14).
NORFOLK STATE
NSU men roll in with a 3-3 overall mark, including back-to-back wins over North Carolina Wesleyan, 4-3, and Christopher Newport, 5-4.
On the flip side, the Spartan women come in 2-5 overall with victories over crosstown rivals Virginia Wesleyan, 7-0, and Christopher Newport, 5-4.
DELAWARE STATE (WOMEN)
DSU enters Saturday's showdown nearly a month away from competition. Delaware State has played three contests where they are 2-1 overall with wins over Lafayette, 5-2, and conference foe Coppin State, 7-0.
LAST TIMEOUT
Thursday (March 25), the men's tennis team fell in their season opener against Mount St. Mary's at the York Adams Tennis Community Association Complex in Landover, Pa. Mayers highlighted the match by winning his first collegiate singles victory in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
For the women, the Bison showed promise in their season opener despite falling to crosstown rival George Washington Sunday (March 14), 0-7.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On April 10, the men's squad hosts Morgan State. First serve at 2 p.m.
The following weekend (April 16-17), both teams travel up the Beltway to meet Loyola (Md.) and conference foe Coppin State. Friday's contest (April 16) versus the Greyhounds start at 3 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match time for Saturday's (April 17) clash with the Eagles.
