WASHINGTON- After home victories by both the Howard men's and women's tennis teams on Wednesday, March 20 against Coppin State, the Bison will take on Longwood University on Sunday, March 24. The Bison will host their Lancer opponents at Banneker Recreation Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. The team's seniors will be honored for their commitment to the tennis program.
LAST TIME OUT
Howard men's tennis (1-7 Overall, 1-0 MEAC) earned their first victory of the season, defeating conference opponent, Coppin State 4-1. Raju Sagar and
Cole Gittens teamed up to win their doubles match, 6-2, while
Kyle Martin and
DeVaughn Blackburn won their doubles, 6-1.
In singles, Lyn Roger won by opponent retirement. Gittens and
Karim Shokeir also defeated their Eagles opponents in singles.
Howard women's tennis (3-8 Overall, 1-0 MEAC) also defeated the Eagles, 4-1 on Wednesday. The combination of
Nicole Hutchison and
Christina Joynes won the first doubles match, 6-1. Joynes paired up with Addison Kendall in No.2 Doubles to earn a 6-3 victory.
Hutchison, Joynes and
Aria Ragas each won their singles matches.
SERIES HISTORY
The men's team for Howard faced the Longwood last year on a neutral site in Frederick, Va. The Lancers shutout the Bison that day, 7-0. Howard women's tennis was scheduled to take on Longwood last April, but that match was canceled.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard men's and women's tennis will travel to Baltimore to battle Loyola University Maryland on Wednesday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
