WASHINGTON (February 3, 2018) – Coach
Larry Strickland and the Howard University Men's Tennis team entered Saturday's contest shorthanded but battled to the very end as they were blanked by the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds, 7-0, at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus.
Junior
Karim Shokeir and sophomore
Sagar Raju led the Bison, winning their doubles match over Loyola's Blest Jones and Matt Fitzmaurice, 6-2.
Despite the victory, HU found themselves in the hole as they entered singles competition due to Loyola winning the other two doubles contests by walkover and a 6-4 decision in favor of the Greyhounds.
In singles play, Shokeir served as the squad's top player, but fell in straight sets against Loyola's Brian Hoffarth (3-6, 5-7).
Sunday (Feb. 4), HU men face Longwood (LU) at a neutral site match in Frederick, Va. First-serve at noon.
