ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 7, 2017) – Howard University Women's Tennis team displayed a strong performance on Day Two of the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational.
Three Bison reached consolation finals:
Nathalie Finch;
Christina Joynes and
Kindha Nasef.
Finch bounced back from yesterday's lost with two victories. In the first match, she vanquished Seton Hall's Melody Taal, 8-3. Then, Finch edged out George Washington's Maria Decamps, 9-8(3).
Joynes joined the win column with an 8-5 victory over Navy's Isabel Balsavage.
Nasef also rebounded from yesterday with two singles wins. Nasef overpowered Rutgers' Lee Levy, 8-3. Next, she held off Binghamton's Ashley Granieri, 8-6.
Furthermore, three Bison were stopped in Main draw semis, including newcomer
Yassmine Khiri.
Khiri extended her winning streak to 11 after knocking off UConn's Cassie Chung in straight sets (6-4, 6-4); however, the run came to an end as Maryland's Saya Usui defeated the Morocco native (1-6, 2-6).
Senior
Sajela Harlow continued her winning ways by slipping past Navy's Meghan O'Malley in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 14-12), but came up short against Kayleigh Hahn (6-4, 2-6, 8-10).
Freshman
Aria Ragas did not compete in singles play due to a bye, but came on strong as she defeated George Mason's Lauren Dupuis in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 10-8). Dupuis would fall to Navy's Danika Kahatapitiya in straight sets (1-6, 2-6).
HU concludes play in Annapolis, Md. tomorrow at 9 a.m.
