Women’s Tennis Edges Out North Carolina Central in MEAC Opener

Bison take down Eagles in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (March 28, 2026) – Howard University women's tennis team opened the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Round Up with a 4-3 victory over North Carolina Central (NCCU) Saturday at Folkes Stevens Tennis Center, home of Old Dominion.

Third-year Bison Lauren Oliver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and freshman Franchesca Brown (Atlanta) teamed up in doubles play, knocking off Mariana Zottoli and Valeria San Miguel, 7-5.

Despite their victory, North Carolina Central won the other two doubles contests and took a 1-0 match advantage into singles competition.

Brown, junior Dana Hall (Miami) and DMV native rookie Camille Hall (Bowie, Md.) came away victorious, winning their respective singles matches in straight sets.

Oliver served in the No. 6 singles slot where she defeated NCCU's Valentina De Aquino in three sets (6-7, 6-1, 7-6) and clinched the match-deciding contest for HU.

Sunday (March 29), HU (2-8, 1-0 MEAC) continues league play against Norfolk State. Match time is slated for 11 a.m.
