Box Score
Washington, DC --- After opening the season with a double overtime tie on the road against Longwood University on Tuesday, the Howard Women's Soccer team welcomed American University to Greene Stadium on Friday evening for the team's home opener and first game of their season-long four-game home stand.
Despite a stellar effort from junior goalie
Kyra Dickinson (Heartlake Secondary/Brampton, ON), the Lady Bison were unable to charge past the Eagles and fell, 1-0.
With Howard (0-1-1) relegated to defending its own side of the pitch for most of the game, Dickinson successfully thwarted the majority of American's (1-2-0) shots on goal (8-of-9). The lone shot she was unable to corral proved to be the game-winning score.
In the 31
st minute, American's Lindsay Muri took a Kelly Donovan cross and shot towards the net, where Dickinson was able to put a hand on the shot but saw it roll past her on the rebound.
The Lady Bison had several opportunities to even the score but were unable to turn their crosses and corner kicks into quality scoring chances.
Howard will return to the pitch after the weekend when the team hosts VMI on Monday, September 2 at 7:00 PM.
