MATCHUP PREVIEW
HOWARD (3-4-2, 1-0-1 NEC)
Howard enters Sunday's contest riding high after a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind win over Wagner Thursday night (Sept. 26).
Down a goal with less than 15 minutes to play, the Bison showed poise and resilience.
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) sparked the comeback with an 82
nd-minute equalizer, before graduate student
Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.) buried the game-winner in the 88
th off a pinpoint cross from
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.).
The win marked Howard's first NEC victory of the season and pushed the Bison to four points through two league games.
Trinity Knox (Atlanta), who reached the 200
th career save milestone during the match, continues to provide leadership between the posts.
Offensively, the Bison are showing improved depth and creativity. Howard outshot Wagner, 15-7, and now holds a 36-13 shot advantage over their first two NEC opponents.
Mickens- Perez has emerged as a dynamic threat while
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) and
Imani Kissi (Dublin, Ohio) continue to generate chances in the attacking third.
Sunday presents a chance for Howard to grab its first road win of the season and solidify a top-half position in the NEC standings.
MERCYHURST (0-8-2, 0-1-1 NEC)
Mercyhurst remain winless through 10 matches this season and still searching for their first NEC victory. In their most recent outing, the Lakers fell, 3-0, to Wagner in Staten Island. The Seahawks dominated the match, outshooting the Lakers, 18-2, and controlling 60-percent of possession.
Despite the lopsided stats, goalkeeper Shae McGinty continues to be a bright spot for Mercyhurst, notching multiple strong performances under pressure.
Offensively, however, the Lakers have struggled to find rhythm, scoring just three goals all season.
With another tough opponent in Howard coming to town, Mercyhurst will be aiming to turn the tide and defend home turf.
LAST TIMEOUT
Howard pulled off a late-match rally at Greene Stadium, stunning Wagner with two goals in the final 10 minutes. The Bison showed composure, fitness and tactical patience to take control when it mattered most.
Mercyhurst was overwhelmed by Wagner's press and pace, failing to register a shot on goal
in the second half and dropping their eighth match of the season.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
After Sunday's road trip to Erie, the Bison return home to host Delaware State Sunday (Oct. 5) at 3 p.m., inside Greene Stadium. The match will be part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause. The game will also stream live on NEC Front Row.
