Smith Leads the Way After Round One of the NCAA Amherst Regional

Bison wrap up round one Monday morning

AMHERST, Va. (May 12, 2025) – With inclement weather on the horizon, the Howard University men's golf team altered its schedule at the NCAA Amherst Regional, held at the Poplar Golf Course (par-70, 7,212 yards), playing round one Sunday afternoon (May 11) immediately after its practice round. Day One was suspended due to darkness with nearly four holes remaining.
 
Monday (May 12), the Bison finished round one after shooting 24-over par (304). Currently, HU sits in 13th place with 36 holes left.
 
Fifth-year Bison Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) led the way, firing 2-over par (72) with three birdies on the back nine. The Illinois native is tied for 35th overall.
 
Sophomore Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) shot 5-over par (75) while tying for 63rd place.
 
Rookie Cassius Blake (Birmingham, England) is one stroke behind Perroni (76, +6), tying for 66th on the individual leaderboard.
 
No. 30 Tennessee leads the field after firing 9-under par (271), led by Christian Pardue shooting 4-under par (66) in round one.
 
No. 7 Oklahoma is four strokes behind the Vols (275, -5), followed by No. 18 Vanderbilt (278, -2).
 
Arkansas and No. 19 Pepperdine are tied for fourth place in the team standings (280, E).
 
HU gets underway with round two Monday (May 12) at 11:35 a.m., hosted by Liberty University.
