Men’s Golf Holds Steady at the NCAA Amherst Regional

Bison unable to make up ground after round two

AMHERST, Va. (May 12, 2025) – Howard University men's golf team remains in 13th place after round two of the NCAA Amherst Regional, hosted by Liberty University and held at the Poplar Grove Golf Course (par-70, 7,212 yards) in Amherst, Va.
 
On Day Two, HU shot 26-over par (306). After two rounds, the Bison are 50-over par (610) with 18 holes remaining.
 
Fifth-year senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) continues to spearhead the Bison, firing 6-over par (76) with three birdies in round two. After 36 holes, the Illinois native is 8-over par (148) and tied for 53rd overall.
 
Sophomore Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) registered a 75 (+5) in round two. After two days, he produced a 150 (+10) while tying for 59th place.
 
First-year Bison Cassius Blake (Birmingham, England) recorded 6-over par (76) on Day Two after notching three birdies. In 36 holes of play, the Englishman has shot 12-over par (152) and tied for 65th on the player leaderboard.
 
For the second straight round, No. 30 Tennessee sits atop the team standings at 4-under par (556). SEC rival No. 18 Vanderbilt trails the Vols by one stroke (557, -3) after firing 1-under par (279) on Day Two.
 
No. 7 Oklahoma holds the third slot (561, +1), followed by No. 31 Arizona at 4-over par (564).
 
Florida Gulf Coast rounds out the top 5 (565, +5), but Arkansas sits only one stroke back in sixth place (566, +6).
 
HU wraps up the week with round three Tuesday (May 13) at 9 a.m.
