Men’s Golf Wins Back-to-Back NEC Titles

Bison rally to win second straight Northeast Conference Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 26, 2025) – Howard University men's golf team erased a seven-stroke deficit entering the final round to win its second straight Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship Saturday afternoon at the Kingsmill Resort (par-71, 6,831 yards) in Williamsburg, Va.
 
Throughout the tourney, HU shot 8-over par (860), including a 289 (+3) on the final day.
 
Second-year Bison Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) led the comeback with a 1-under par (70) performance Saturday, including five birdies. Overall, the California product recorded 6-over par (219) in 54 holes of play while finishing 10th on the individual leaderboard.
 
Fifth-year golfer Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) and sophomore Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) tied for fourth place after racking up nine birdies combined Saturday.
 
Rookie Cassius Blake (Birmingham, England) registered 4-over par (217) during the event, tying for sixth in the standings.
 
For their efforts, all four Bison were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
LIU led the first 36 holes of action but shot 15-over par (298) on Championship Saturday; thus, taking second place (862, +10) behind the Bison.
 
FDU's Pyae Phyo Thu won the 2025 NEC Individual crown with an impressive 206 (-7), five strokes better than LIU's Marcelo Mexsen and Le Moyne's Oven Corby.
 
HU heads to the NCAA Regionals (May 12-14) to earn a spot in the championship at La Costa.
