ATHENS, Ga. (May 20, 2026) – Howard University men's golf team saw its 2025-26 campaign come to an end at the NCAA Regional Round in Athens, Ga. The three-day tourney (May 18-20) was held at the University of Georgia Golf Course (par-71, 7,258 yards), hosted by the Bulldogs.
HU shot its best round of the week, firing 2-under par (282). Collectively, the Bison posted an 885 (+33) in 54 holes of action, placing 13
th on the team leaderboard.
Sophomore
Michael Perusse (Pearland, Texas) ended his first season as a Bison with a 5-under par (66) performance in the final round, including six birdies. The Texas native tied for 57
th place (217, +4).
Junior
Francisco Perez (Los Mochis, Mexico) also completed his first year at HU where he recorded a 68 (-3) in round three, including five birdies. After three days, he shot 7-over par (220) and tied for 64
th overall.
Junior
Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) produced a 221 (+8), tying for 68
th, while fellow classmate
Marlon Jones (Berkeley, Calif.) notched 16-over par (229), earning 73
rd overall.
All-NEC selection junior
Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) rounded out the Bison, shooting 22-over par (235) and taking 74
th place.
No. 13 Vanderbilt won the NCAA Athens Regional after firing 28-under par (824). No. 36 Louisville finished two strokes behind the Commodores (826, -26), followed by the No. 1 overall seed Auburn Tigers (830, -22). No. 24 BYU (832, -20) and No. 26 Georgia (833, -19) rounded out the top five. All five teams punched their tickets to the NCAA Championship Round.
No. 54 Malan Potgieter (Louisville) qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual, winning the event with a 14-under par (199) performance.
HU Director of Golf
Sam Puryear won NEC Men's Coach of the Year for the second time in three years after leading the Bison to their third consecutive title. For the first time in program history, three Bison were selected to the All-NEC First Team: Huff; Perez and Perroni.
Coach Puryear and the Bison look to four-repeat as NEC Champions in spring 2027 and return back to the NCAA postseason.
