Tennis Travels to the Sunshine State for Spring Break Road Trip

Both teams face Eastern Florida State Sunday; women’s squad plays Stetson Monday

WASHINGTON (March 1, 2025) - The Howard University men's tennis team looks to bounce back while the women's tennis squad seeks to build on their three-match winning streak during their spring break road trip in Florida.
 
Sunday (March 2), both clubs face Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) in Melbourne, Fla., at 10:30 a.m. The next day (March 3), the women will travel to DeLand, Fla., for their Stetson matchup. First-serve at 10 a.m.

MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD WOMEN
 
Senior Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) looks to continue her winning ways in her home state, along with reigning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Year sophomore Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and the rest of the team.
 
HOWARD MEN
 
Second-year Bison Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) and newcomer Kaosie Nwokedi (Charlotte, N.C.) seek to build on their respective two-game singles win streaks while the rest of the squad looks to get back to their winning ways this weekend.
 
EASTERN FLORIDA STATE WOMEN
 
The Titans will be matched up with USC Sumter before they face the Bison. This doubleheader will be their last set of matches before a ten-day break.
 
EASTERN FLORIDA STATE MEN
 
The 2-0 Titans are striving to extend their winning streak against the Bison. Alexander Achour and Alberto Perez Mellado have stood out as the team has swept both opponents.
 
STETSON WOMEN
 
The 6-3 Hatters face the Bison two days after a matchup with Bellarmine. Cheri Darley is coming into these matchups with a team-leading 5-0 record in singles competition.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
The women were able to sweep (4-0) Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 21), thanks to stellar performances from the entire team.
 
The depleted men's squad took a tough 4-3 loss to Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 21).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
After this doubleheader, the women will not have a match until March 15 against Cornell at Banneker Recreation Center in D.C.
 
The men will have another extended break, not playing until March 14 against Harford
C.C., at Banneker Recreation Center.
