Tennis Looks to Build Momentum Versus The Mount Friday

Both teams host Mount St. Mary’s at the WTEF East Capitol campus

WASHINGTON (February 20, 2025) - Howard University tennis program looks to keep up their winning ways this weekend at the WTEF (Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's) East Capitol Campus. Both teams play Mount St. Mary's (MSM) Friday (Feb. 21) at 12:30 p.m.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
HOWARD WOMEN
 
The team looks to carry the success of their last two back-to-back wins into Friday's showdown against The Mount.
 
Recently, senior Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Week after going a perfect 2-0 in singles play versus Villanova (Feb. 14) and UDC (Feb. 15), winning both contests in straight sets.
 
HOWARD MEN
 
Senior Daniel Dunac (Washington), second-year Bison Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) and the rest of the squad look to build on their dominance against UDC (Feb. 15).
 
Thursday (Feb. 20), newcomer Kaosie Nwokedi (Charlotte, N.C.) took home MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week after winning both singles and doubles matches against the Firebirds.
 
MOUNT ST. MARY'S WOMEN
 
The MSM women will be motivated to end its six-match skid. The freshmen duo of Amari O'Brien (Greenbelt, Md.) and Kaajal Ramisetty (Bangalore, India) look to build on their wins against Lehigh last weekend.
 
MOUNT ST. MARY'S MEN
 
The MSM men are aiming to get its second win of the season Friday, led by junior Luke Papayannou (Valencia, Calif.) and freshman Daniel Haddadin (Johnson City, Tenn.).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
The women's team took care of business with victories over Villanova, 4-2, and UDC, 4-0, last weekend.
 
The men's team beat the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Firebirds, 5-1, at home.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
The women face off against the Loyola Greyhounds Wednesday (Feb. 26) at the WTEF (Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's) East Capitol Campus.
 
The men's team will have a substantial break, not playing again until March 2 against Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla.
