WASHINGTON (January 23, 2025) – Howard University tennis program opens its 2025 campaign with three matchups over the weekend.
Friday (Jan. 24), Howard men face crosstown rival Georgetown at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus. The following day (Jan. 25), HU Bison square off against the Hoyas. Sunday (Jan. 26), the women's team goes to Newark, Del., to face CAA Champion Delaware.
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
HOWARD WOMEN
A year ago, the Bison women went 11-10 (4-2 MEAC) and reached the conference semifinal round.
Entering this season, HU is projected to finish second in league behind reigning league champion South Carolina State (SCSU). The program returns all 10 student-athletes, including five All-MEAC selections, led by 2024 MEAC Rookie of the Year

HOWARD MEN
HU men went 6-11 overall (2-3 MEAC) and made the MEAC Semifinal Round before falling to eventual champion SCSU. The program returns five Bison, led by All-MEAC selections
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas).
GEORGETOWN WOMEN
Saturday's matchup will be the first match of the spring season for the Georgetown women.
Last spring, the Hoyas finished 8-13 overall, led by BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Emily Novikov.
GEORGETOWN MEN
On Jan. 17, Georgetown men fell at Old Dominion, 6-1, with Jake Fellows earning the lone point in singles play.
Last season, the Hoyas (0-1) are coming off a 15-8 overall record, the largest win total in the men's program history.
DELAWARE WOMEN
The Hens begin 2025 by hosting Villanova Friday (Jan. 24) at Delcastle Tennis Center, followed by a Sunday doubleheader against Bucknell and Howard at DuPont Country Club.
Last season, Delaware won the 2024 CAA (Coastal Athletic Association) title after going unbeaten in league play (5-0).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The men's team is back in action with back-to-back matches versus Loyola (Md.) Friday (Jan. 31) and at Delaware (Feb. 1).
Sunday (Feb. 2), the women's squad goes to Bucknell. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
