NEW CASTLE, Del. (January 19, 2025) – Howard University women's bowling team earned a victory at the Northeast Classic (Jan. 17-19), hosted by No. 11 Sacred Heart University in New Castle, Del.
HU took down Molloy in traditional play, 935-802.
Junior
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) led the way, rolling a 227 against the Lions. Sophomores
Jewel Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa.) and
Simone Ashford (Chicago) contributed the win, tallying 194 and 189 total pinfalls, respectively.
Howard dropped its last four traditional contests, including three matches to top 15 opponents: No. 13 McKendree (911-1,002); No. 6 Stephen F. Austin (879-1,017) and No. 4 Youngstown (882-978).
Third-year Bison
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) averaged a 192.8 (964 total pinfalls) in five traditional matches. Johnson registered 183.0 in five contests.
HU opened the tournament with five Baker matches, including four top 30 opponents, coming up short in each contest.
"First tournament after returning from break, so back to the training room," said Howard women's bowling head coach
Ron Davis. "Every tournament is a learning experience, so we have to approach these games with the mindset of growth and the results will follow."
This year's tournament featured 22 of the 25 ranked teams in the country and the 38-team field was the largest in NCAA women's bowling history.
No. 3 Nebraska won the 2025 Northeast Classic, defeating the No. 4 Penguins, 4-0, in Baker best-of-seven.
On Feb. 7-9, HU goes to Mount Joy, Pa., for the annual Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's.
