WASHINGTON (March 20, 2025) – Howard University women's bowling team looks to bring home its first tournament title at the 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. The three-day event (March 21-23) takes place at Buffaloe Lanes North in Raleigh, N.C.
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
Wednesday (March 19), the league revealed its championship field with nationally ranked No. 8 North Carolina A&T State earning the top seed after winning its fifth straight MEAC regular season title.
Howard and Coppin State finished tied at 3-11 in MEAC play with the tie breaker going to the Bison; thus, securing the No. 6 seed in the tournament.
Friday (March 22), HU meets Morgan State (MSU), who rounded out the top three with a 10-4 conference mark, in the opening round. This season, the Lady Bears hold a 3-1 edge over Howard, but dropped the previous matchup at the MEAC Meet No. 2, 954-867, in traditional play.
All eight MEAC bowling teams compete in the double-elimination bowling championship, using the mega-match format in the preliminary rounds. Sunday's (March 23) championship match will be the best-of-seven baker match format.
LAST TIMEOUT
On March 14-16, HU competed in the annual Music City Classic, hosted by No. 3 Vanderbilt, where they won five matches in Smyrna, Tenn.
Third-year Bison
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) led the charge with 1,057 total pinfalls (176.2 average) in six contests.
Fellow Chicago natives
Simone Ashford and
Janae Pugh each competed in five traditional matches, rolling a 197 and 207, respectively, versus No. 11 Louisiana Tech.
Sophomore transfer
Jewel Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa.) guided the Bison to victory over William Smith, producing a 215.
