Track & Field Seeks A Pair of MEAC Titles in Norfolk

Bison looking to bring hardware back to The District

WASHINGTON (May 5, 2024) – Howard University track and field program looks to bring back the hardware at the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships. The three-day event (May 6-8) takes place at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, Va., hosted by Norfolk State University (NSU).

Bison Nation can follow all the action via live results. Wednesday's (May 8) action will be streamed live on ESPN+, beginning at 1 p.m.
 
Tickets are still available with an all-championship pass for only $25. Fans can also buy daily passes for $10 each day of the championship. Ticket sales will be done exclusively online.

MEET PREVIEW
 
All eight MEAC institutions will be competing in Norfolk: Howard; Norfolk State; Coppin State; Delaware State; Maryland Eastern Shore; Morgan State; North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.
 
The 2024 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships starts Monday (May 6) with the men's decathlon at 1 p.m., followed by women's decathlon at 1:15 p.m. To conclude opening day, the meet ends with the women's 10K-meter run at 7 p.m., and men's 10K-meter run at 7:45 p.m.
 
Tuesday (May 7) commences with the men's & women's decathlon, beginning at 9 a.m., to finish up their race. Field events begin at 11:30 a.m., and end at 2 p.m., for running events to start at 2:50 p.m., opening with the women's 100-meter hurdles preliminaries. The women's 3K-meter steeplechase takes place at 5:35 p.m., followed by the men's 3K-meter steeplechase ending the day at 6 p.m.
 
Championship Wednesday kicks off at 10 a.m., with events, such as women's pole vault, men's triple jump and women's javelin. To end the three-day event, the women's 4x400 relay commences at 4:35 p.m., followed by the men's 4x400 relay at 4:55 p.m.
 
The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the men's 4x400-meter relay. The top three finishers in each event will be named All-MEAC honorees.
 
Select throwing events, such as the discus, hammer throw and javelin will be held at the NSU football practice field while the shot put takes place just outside of Dick Price Stadum, to the left behind the press box.
 
Entering the meet, HU women look to three-peat as outdoor champions while the Bison men are seeking their first-ever MEAC outdoor championship.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On April 25-27, Howard competed at the prestigious Penn Relays, hosted by Penn inside Franklin Field.
 
Several Bison excelled during the three-day festival, led by junior Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) winning Friday's (April 26) College Men's Long Jump College with 7.33 meters (24'0.75").
 
On the track, graduate Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) and freshman Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) made the 110-meter hurdles final, registering times of 13.59 (4th) and 14.14 (9th), respectively.
 
On the women's side, second-year Bison Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) earned third overall in the long jump, hopping nearly 20 feet (6.00 meters).
 
In the relays, graduate Kailei Collins (Houston), junior Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and rookies Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) represented Bison Nation in the women's 4x100 where they took third place (44.30).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On May 22-25, several Bison travel to Lexington, Ky., for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
