Track & Field Prepares for the MEAC Outdoor Championships

Bison looking to bring home a pair of MEAC Titles

WASHINGTON (May 13, 2026) – Howard University track & field program prepares for the 2026 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Outdoor Championships. The three-day (May 14-16) takes place at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, Va., hosted by Norfolk State University (NSU).

Saturday's (May 16) action will be streamed on ESPN+, starting at 1 p.m.
 
Tickets are still available with an all-championship pass for only $40. Fans can also buy daily passes for $15 each day of the championship. Ticket sales will be done exclusively online.

MEET PREVIEW
 
All eight MEAC institutions will be competing in Norfolk: Howard; Norfolk State; Coppin State; Delaware State; Maryland Eastern Shore; Morgan State; North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.
 
The 2026 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships starts Thursday (May 14) with the men's decathlon at 1 p.m., followed by women's decathlon at 1:15 p.m. To conclude opening day, the meet ends with the women's 10K-meter run at 7 p.m., and men's 10K-meter run at 7:45 p.m.
 
Friday (May 15) commences with the men's & women's decathlon, beginning at 9 a.m., to finish up their race. Field events begin at 11:30 a.m., and running events to start at 2:50 p.m., opening with the women's 100-meter hurdles preliminaries. The women's 3K-meter steeplechase takes place at 4:45 p.m., followed by the men's 3K-meter steeplechase ending the day at 5:05 p.m.
 
Championship Saturday (May 16) kicks off at 10 a.m., with events, such as women's pole vault, men's triple jump and women's javelin. To end the three-day event, the women's 4x400 relay commences at 4:05 p.m., followed by the men's 4x400 relay at 4:15 p.m.
 
The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the men's 4x400-meter relay. The top three finishers in each event will be named All-MEAC honorees.
 
Select throwing events, such as the discus, hammer throw and javelin will be held at the NSU football practice field while the shot put takes place just outside of Dick Price Stadum, to the left behind the press box.
 
Entering the meet, HU women look to five-peat as outdoor champions while the Bison men are seeking their first-ever MEAC outdoor championship.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On May 1-2, Howard traveled to Greensboro, N.C., for the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State.
 
For the men, DMV native sophomore Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) won the high jump after leaping 2.11 meters (6'11").
 
Fifth-year Bison Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) claimed gold in the long jump, catapulting 7.18 meters (23'6.75").
 
On the track, rookie Ashton Thomas (Greensboro, N.C.) won gold in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:53.15.
 
On the women's side, freshman Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) and sophomores Ester Kirk (Morristown, N.J.) and Chloe Poindexter (State College, Pa.) swept the 1500-meter run, placing first (4:37.27), second (4:40.96) and third (4:50.01), respectively.
 
Sophomore Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) took first place in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:09.16). while senior Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.) won the 400-meter hurdles with a 57.94 mark.
 
Freshman Nilijah Darden (Greensboro, N.C.) took home gold in the 200-meter dash, recording a 23.54 time.
 
In the field, seniors Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) secured gold and silver in the long jump after leaping 5.56 meters (18'3") and 5.38 meters (17'8"), respectively.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On May 27-30, several Bison travel to Lexington, Ky., for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
