NORFOLK, Va. (May 15, 2026) – Howard University men's track & field team remains in striking distance after Day Two of the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Outdoor Championships in Norfolk, Va.
HU dropped three spots to fifth in the standings after tallying 41 points in eight scored events.
Fifth-year Bison
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) and rookie
Roman Mills (Washington) led the way, earning silver (7.48 meters) and bronze (7.34 meters), respectively, in the long jump.
Sophomore throwers
Tarike Lavine (Bridgetown, Barbados) and
Benjamin Hilliard (Indianapolis) scored points in the hammer after finishing third (48.29 meters) and eighth (39.87 meters), respectively.
Fellow classmate
Solomon Young (Charlotte, N.C.) rounded out the scoring with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (15.29 meters).
On the track, freshman
Ashton Thomas (Greensboro, N.C.) reached Championship Saturday after posting an automatic qualifying (AQ) time of 1:51.01 in the 800-meter run. Saturday's race is slated for 2:35 p.m.
Graduate
Abraham Evans (Virginia Beach, Va.) and rookie
Jabari Dillard (Cross Hill, S.C.) made the 100-meter dash final with marks of 10.43 (AQ) and 10.40 (non-AQ), respectively. Saturday's 100-meter dash is scheduled for 2:25 p.m.
Dillard, senior
Jorim Bangue (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and sophomore
Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) ran non-AQ times in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.30, 14.27 and 14.25, respectively. Saturday's final round is set for 1:50 p.m.
Second-year Bison
Elijah Grant (Fort Mill, S.C.) represented Bison Nation in the 400-meter dash where he recorded an AQ mark of 46.88. Saturday's race is set for 2:05 p.m.
Norfolk State holds the top spot after Day Two with 69 points, followed by Delaware State (54 points) and South Carolina State (53 points).
Championship Saturday (May 16) kicks off at 10 a.m., with events, such as women's pole vault, men's triple jump and women's javelin. To end the three-day event, the women's 4x400 relay commences at 4:05 p.m., followed by the men's 4x400 relay at 4:15 p.m.
