BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (May 13, 2024) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its men's golf postseason accolades where Howard University saw four Bison acknowledged for their outstanding performances during the 2023-24 season. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
 
HU Director of Golf Sam Puryear headlined the afternoon, winning the league's Coach of the Year honor after guiding the club to its first NEC Championship. In addition to leading the Bison to their first NEC Title and a berth in NCAA Regionals, Puryear etched his name in the conference record book as Howard's first NEC Coach of the Year honoree.
 
Graduates Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) and Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) were named to the All-NEC First Team after averaging per round 71.9 and 72.6, respectively. The Bison duo shared the individual crown at the Princeton Invitational (April 6-7).
 
Senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) made the All-NEC Second Team, posting a 73.7 strokes per round average. At the NEC Championship (April 26-28), he earned a spot on the All-Tournament, alongside Odom and Whiten, with a seventh-place finish.
 
Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim was selected NEC Golfer of the Year for the third time in his illustrious career while North Carolina Central's Iszac Bertagnole claimed the league's Rookie of the Year award.
 
On May 13-15, the Bison are set to compete in its first-ever NCAA Division I Regionals at the Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C., hosted by the North Carolina Tar Heels.
