HISTORY

In 1985, the inaugural NEC men's golf tournament took place where FDU won the title in 36 holes.

In 2007, the tournament format shifted to a three-round event (54 holes) where Monmouth took home the championship.

Overall, FDU holds the conference record with seven titles, followed by Central Connecticut State (5). LIU has won three NEC Championships, including last year's crown.

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

In all, 11 different schools will be competing in this year's championship: Howard; Binghamton; FDU; Le Moyne; LIU; Maryland Eastern Shore; Merrimack; North Carolina Central; Sacred Heart; Saint Francis and Wagner.

The tourney is a three-day, 54-hole event. For a team's score, sum together all four players' lowest scores on a given day. The all-tournament squad is comprised of the top 10 finishers.

Howard is seeking its first NEC crown in program history.

Last year, the Bison finished in second place overall.

After the tourney, three Bison were named to the NEC All-Tournament Team: graduates Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) and Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) and senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.).

Everett leads the Bison with 72.6 strokes per round this season. Fellow classmate C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ky.) is second at 72.7 strokes per round, followed by Odom (72.9 strokes per round).

LAST TIMEOUT

The squad recently competed in the Princeton Invitational (April 6-7) where they placed in the top five.

Odom and Whiten led HU throughout the weekend, sharing the individual crown with six-under par (207) performances.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU goes to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (May 6-8).
