WASHINGTON (April 19, 2024) – Howard University tennis welcomes rival Morgan State (MSU) to The District Saturday (April 20) for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Banneker Recreation Center. Match time is slated for 1:30 p.m.
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
HOWARD MEN
Howard men (4-10, 1-3 MEAC) stopped its four-match slide after knocking off Coppin State (CSU) Monday (April 15), 6-1. Currently, HU is tied with MSU in the conference standings.
Senior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and newcomer
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) lead the charge with six singles wins apiece. In doubles competition, the duo is 6-6 overall (2-2 MEAC).
HOWARD WOMEN
HU women (9-9, 3-2 MEAC) are riding a two-match win streak after defeating CSU, 5-1, in Baltimore Monday (April 15). The squad is seeking its second 10-win season in three years.
Junior
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and newcomer
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lead the way with a combined 22 singles victories. In doubles play, the duo is 10-6 while riding a four-match win streak.
MORGAN STATE MEN
MSU men (7-11, 1-3 MEAC) enters the weekend looking to snap a two-match skid.
Mikeal Carpenter leads the squad in singles play, serving primarily in the No. 1 spot. This season, he has an 11-5 mark (2-2 MEAC) and currently riding a five-match win streak.
Niles Rachal competes as the team's No. 2 singles player, posting a 7-4 record (3-1 MEAC).
MORGAN STATE WOMEN
Morgan State women (5-13, 3-2 MEAC) seeks to rebound after a 6-1 road loss at Delaware State Thursday (April 18). Currently, the Lady Bears are tied with HU for the No. 3 spot in the conference standings.
Aleksandra Evdokimova comes in as the club's No. 1 singles player.
In doubles competition, Lauryn Hall and Hannah Smith served as the Lady Bears' top duo.
LAST TIMEOUT
Monday (April 15), both squads defeated Coppin State in Baltimore. The men knocked off CSU, 6-1, while the women grabbed a 5-1 decision.
