Tennis Hosts The Mount Saturday

WASHINGTON (February 9, 2024) – Howard University tennis program is scheduled to face Mount St. Mary's (Md.) Saturday (Feb. 10) at Watkins Regional Park (301 Watkins Park Dr., Upper Marlboro, MD 20774). First serve is set for noon.

HOWARD WOMEN
 
As the weekend approaches, HU women (0-4) embrace it with steadfast resolve, determined to shift the trajectory of their string of setbacks.
 
In doubles play, junior Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and rookie Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) teamed up as the club's leading pair, securing a victory over Navy's Sia Chaudry and Samantha Johns, 6-4, Saturday (Feb. 3).
 
HOWARD MEN
 
Despite facing an early setback, the HU men's team (0-2) is poised for a compelling comeback this weekend, ready to showcase their resilience and determination.
 
In the doubles match, senior Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.) and junior Daniel Dunac (Washington) came close to clinching victory but narrowly lost a competitive contest against Navy's Aaron Gu and Zach Quattro, 7-6 [8-6].
 
MOUNT ST. MARY'S WOMEN
 
The Mount St. Mary's women's team (1-0) secured a 4-3 victory over Morgan State Sunday (Feb. 4), marking a 1-0 record in dual matches for The Mount this season.
 
Sofia Kostirko dominated with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles for the Mountaineers. In doubles action, Margherita Trolese and Sofia Kostirko combined for a 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
 
MOUNT ST. MARY'S MEN
 
Mount St. Mary's (2-3) experienced a setback Sunday (Feb. 4) against Penn State but is optimistic and eagerly anticipating a victory this upcoming weekend.
 
Elliot Stevens and Victor Mignot secured a victory for the Mount at No. 1 doubles while Jarrett Karnibad also emerged victorious at No. 5 singles.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Feb. 3, the Bison women fought valiantly but fell short against Navy, losing 4-3.
 
For the men, they dropped to 0-2 in the early phase of the season, falling to unbeaten Navy, 7-0.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Scheduled for Feb. 16, the HU tennis program is set to compete against the University of the District of Columbia at WTEF-East Capitol Campus in D.C.
