EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (October 8, 2024) – Howard University fifth-year senior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) led the men's golf team at the annual Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.). The two-day, 54-hole event took place at the Maidstone Club (par-72, 6,665 yards) in East Hampton, N.Y.
Smith shot 10-over par (226), tying for 38
th overall. The Illinois native posted back-to-back 71 (-1) scores on Day One of competition.
Second-year Bison
Mitchell Grey (Mississauga, Canada) recorded a 237 (+21), placing 56
th in the individual standings.
Fellow classmate
Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) produced a 239 (+23) while senior
Anthony Ford (Atlanta) shot one stroke back (240, +24).
Collectively, HU shot 75-over par (939) in three rounds of play.
Ole Miss won the 2024 Hamptons Intercollegiate with a dominant performance, shooting 26-under par (838), including a 269 (-19) in round two. Michael La Sasso led the Rebels, registering 15-under par (201).
Florida State finished runner-up (858, -6), followed by Virginia (859, -5).
On Oct. 13-16, Howard goes to St. Andrews, Scotland, for the St. Andrews Collegiate.
