QUEENS, N.Y. (September 7, 2023)- On August 30, the Howard University tennis program made an appearance at the third annual HBCU Live where the US Open recognized and celebrated the history, culture and impact of HBCUs on the big stage.
The event was headlined by two-time Grammy-nominated producer and North Carolina Central (NCCU) alum DJ 9th Wonder. NCCU's marching band "The Sound Machine" also made an appearance, performing today's hits. Other notable performers were Florida A&M alum A Fly Guy and DJ Heat from Morgan State.
Following the day's festivities, Howard Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew participated in an invitation-only networking event and panel discussion, alongside Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner Sonja Stills, Howard Track & Field alum Lance Gross and other respected HBCU figures.
Coach Askew and the tennis program are accepting donations as they gear up for the 2023-24 season.
