NORFOLK, Va. (March 29, 2026) – Howard University men's tennis dropped its MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Round Up finale to Norfolk State, 6-1, Sunday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Howard opened the match with a strong showing in doubles competition, highlighted by the duo of
Michael Major Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) and
Kamran McIntosh-Ross (Atlanta), who secured a 7-5 win, giving the Bison early momentum.
Norfolk State responded, taking the remaining two courts.
Freshman
Marcus Weekes (London, United Kingdom) and junior
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) fell, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles while rookie
Nathan Bermeo (Durham, N.C.) and third-year Bison
Shawn Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 3.
In singles play, Norfolk State controlled the match, winning all six courts to secure the team victory.
At No. 2 singles, McIntosh-Ross battled through a competitive three-set match, taking the opening set, 7-5, before ultimately falling in a hard-fought contest.
Bermeo also pushed his opponent to three sets at the No. 6 spot, responding with a 7-5 second set win before dropping a tight match tiebreak.
Major Jr., competed at the top position while Weekes, Yon and Lash rounded out the lineup as the Spartans closed out the match.
Howard returns to action Thursday, April 2, when they travel to Baltimore to face Loyola at 2 p.m.
