BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (June 6, 2023) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its 2023 Spring Team Sportsmanship Award winners where Howard University women's lacrosse team received the award for the second straight season. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
 
HU is in its second full season as an associate member.
 
"Good sportsmanship is one of the core values that guides the NEC's commitment to providing a positive student-athlete and fan experience," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "I applaud the institutions who have been recognized by their peers as demonstrating the highest level of respect for the game, their opponents, the officials and their fans."
 
The program finished its second year under head coach Karen Healy-Silcott.
 
"We're honored to receive the team spring sportsmanship award," Healy-Silcott stated. "This season was very challenging for our team, but I could not be prouder of the poise and grace we showed in every match. We are grateful for all of the NEC teams, coaches and players, treating us with respect and giving us the support, we needed to have a good experience on the field."
 
Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
 
HU prepares for the upcoming 2024 campaign, continuing its pursuit for a NEC Title.
