Track & Field Looks to Close Out Season with MEAC Titles

Bison hope to continue strong push heading into Norfolk

WASHINGTON (May 8, 2023) - Howard University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams look to continue a strong run heading into the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships. This three-day event (May 9-11) will take place at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia, hosted by Norfolk State University (NSU).

MEET PREVIEW
 
All eight MEAC institutions will be competing in Norfolk: Howard; Norfolk State; Coppin State; Delaware State; Maryland Eastern Shore; Morgan State; North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.
 
The 2023 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will start Tuesday (May 9) with the Men's Decathlon at 1 p.m. and Women's Decathlon at 1:15 p.m. To conclude opening day, the meet ends with the Women's 10K-Meter run at 7 p.m. and Men's 10K-Meter run at 7:45 p.m.
 
Wednesday (May 10) starts with the Men's & Women's Decathlon, beginning at 9 a.m. to finish up their race. Field events begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. for running events to start at 2:50 p.m., starting with the Women's 100-meter Hurdles preliminaries. The Women's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase will begin at 5:35 p.m., with the Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase ending the day at 6 p.m.
 
Championship Thursday will kick off at 10 a.m., with events, such as Women's Pole Vault, Men's Triple Jump and Women's Javelin. To end the three-day event, the Women's 4x400-Meter Relay will start at 4:35 p.m. and the Men's 4x400-Meter Relay will begin at 4:55 p.m.
 
The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the men's 4x400-meter relay. The top three finishers in each event will be named All-MEAC honorees.
 
Select throwing events, such as the discus, hammer throw and javelin will be held at the NSU football practice field while the shot put takes place just outside of Dick Price Stadum, to the left behind the press box.
 
Entering the meet, HU has more than three dozen Bison qualify.
 
HU Women look to repeat as outdoor champions while the Bison men are seeking their first-ever MEAC outdoor championship.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On April 27-29, Howard competed in the prestigious Penn Relays.
 
On the men's side, graduate Dylan Beard (Baltimore), seniors Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) and Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and freshman Dylan Gaines (Houston) represented HU in the 4x100 relay where they placed fifth with a new school benchmark (40.03).
 
For the women, senior Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and junior Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.) won the 400-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles, respectively.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On May 24-27, several Bison travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
