NORFOLK, Va. (April 25, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its 2023 Men's and Women's Tennis All-Academic Team where Howard University saw a league-leading 12 Bison named to the list. The announcement came Tuesday morning.
The 12 student-athletes acknowledged for their efforts off the court included
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas),
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.),
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.),
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.),
Daniel Dunac (Washington),
Hana ElSherif (Cairo, Egypt),
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.),
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England),
Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.),
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.),
Emnet Simunyola (Lorton, Va.) and
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans).
"Congratulations to our men's and women's tennis All-Academic student-athletes," MEAC Commissioner
Sonja Stills said. "Academic success may not generate the attention athletic success does, but it is no less important, and these student-athletes are to be celebrated for their accomplishments in the classroom."
Overall, 57 student-athletes from the conference's 13 teams (six men and seven women) achieved academic success.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), along with transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
HU women open the MEAC Tournament against No. 5 Morgan State Thursday (April 27) at 8 a.m., followed by the Bison men facing No. 5 Norfolk State at 2 p.m. in Cary, N.C.
