NORFOLK, Va. (April 24, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its pairings for the 2023 Tennis Championships where the Howard University men's and women's tennis teams enter as the No. 4 seeds on their respective sides. The brackets were officially announced Monday evening.
The three-day event (April 27-29) will take place at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
HU women open the tournament against No. 5 Morgan State (MSU) Thursday (April 27) at 8 a.m. On April 20, the Lady Bison topped rival MSU in Baltimore, 4-3.
The women's team finished with a 4-2 mark in the league standings but lost the tiebreakers to No. 2 North Carolina Central and No. 3 Delaware State.
For the men, they begin tourney play with No. 5 Norfolk State (NSU) Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. Howard edged out the Spartans, 4-3, at the annual MEAC Round Up (March 16).
Howard men finished conference play with a 2-3 record, including wins over NSU and No. 6 Coppin State.
All six men's teams and all seven women's teams will be competing for their respective titles with South Carolina State holding the No. 1 spot on each side.
The men's and women's semifinals and championship matches will stream live for the second straight year. This season, those matches will be live on ESPN+. Friday's semifinals will get underway with women's matches at 9 a.m., followed by the men at noon.
Championship Saturday begins with the women's title match at 9 a.m., followed at 1 p.m. by the men's championship final.
