Men’s Golf Moves Up the Standings at The Goodwin

Bison move up two slots after Day Two

SAN FRANCISCO (March 31, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team moved up two spots in the standings after Day Two of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford University.

Seniors Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) and Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) led the charge after round two, both registering 1-under par (69) in the round.

Odom shot even par (70) in the front nine and finished with three birdies and a pair of bogeys in the back nine. For Whiten, the Virginia native recorded 2-under (68) in the first nine holes and another birdie on the 15th hole, but a double bogey on 18th would slow down momentum going into the final day.

Currently, Odom sits even par (140) after two rounds and Whiten is two strokes behind at 2-over par (142).

Junior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) made three birdies on the day, but finished the round 4-over par (74) after seven bogeys, including four in the back nine.

Overall, the Bison posted a 286 (+6), nine strokes improvement than Day One, and sits tied for 24th place.

No. 11 Georgia Tech leads the pack after two days, shooting 13-under par (547) and one stroke better than No. 13 Oklahoma (12-under, 548).

Individually, the Sooners' Ben Lorenz and Washington's Bo Peng sit atop the player leaderboard at 6-under par (134).

HU wraps up the weekend with round three Saturday (April 1). Tee time is set for 10:05 a.m. (ET) / 7:05 a.m. (PT) at the prestigious TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
