NORFOLK, Va. (March 29, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women's tennis weekly awards where Howard University sophomore
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won Player of the Week. The announcement came Wednesday morning.
In Sunday's road win at Towson (March 26), Butcher played in the No. 1 singles spot for the first time in her collegiate career, defeating Sarah Pospichill in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). In doubles competition, she paired with fellow classmate and reigning MEAC Player of the Year
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) in a 6-1 victory.
This season, the South Florida native has accumulated a 9-2 singles mark while riding a five-match win steak.
South Carolina State freshman Soyfa Vitaliyena Chu was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.
HU continues its road swing this weekend, returning to Baltimore to face Loyola (Md.) Saturday (April 1). Match time is slated for noon. The next day (April 2), Howard goes to Dover, Del., to meet Delaware State in a MEAC showdown. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
