Morgan State Defeats Women’s Tennis in the MEAC Quarterfinals

Bison’s title hopes come to an end against Lady Bears

CARY, N.C. (April 24, 2025) – Howard University women's tennis saw its title hopes come to an end, falling to rival Morgan State (MSU), 4-2, at the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Quarterfinals in Cary, N.C.

With the setback, HU finished the season 9-9 overall.

MSU (7-17) took an early 1-0 match lead after winning a pair of doubles matches.

All-MEAC selections senior Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) served as the club's No. 2 doubles team where they held a 5-4 advantage before the contest was declared unfinished.

In singles competition, All-MEAC honorees senior Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and sophomore Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won their respective matches in straight sets.

Chambers dropped a hard-fought three-set contest to MSU's Marta Serra Carles (2-6, 6-4, 2-6).

Morgan State won the other two singles matches in straight sets and advanced to Friday's semifinal round against North Carolina Central.

Grayson, Pegram and fellow classmate Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) competed in their final collegiate match as a Bison. Together, the trio won 38 contests with a 18-6 mark in league play. In 2022, they went on to win the MEAC Regular Season title after going a perfect 6-0 in conference play.

Howard Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew and Associate Head Coach Zach Tobias look to reload for the upcoming 2026 campaign in the program's pursuit for another MEAC title.
