BALTIMORE (October 15, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team displayed another solid outing during the fall season, competing at the 2023 Greyhound Classic, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
Rookies
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Lauren Oliver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) highlighted the weekend, winning the Grey bracket.
Jean and Oliver defeated Loyola's Jessica Bodewes and Liza Tankimovich in the semifinal round, advancing to the championship match.
The freshmen duo swept Towson's Chandre Boshoff and Olivia Rothfeld, 3-0, in the finals and claimed the Greyhound title.
In the Green bracket, HU had a pair of teams make the semifinal round.
All-MEAC selection junior
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and freshman
Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) knocked off Marshall's Rieke Gillar and Andjela Lopicic, 2-1.
Third-year Bison
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and newcomer
Dana Hall (Miami) cruised to the next round, topping the Greyhounds' Christine Richiez and Emi Shivkumar, 3-0.
Both squads fell in the semifinal round, but Butcher and Chambers rebounded with a third-place finish, defeating Morgan State's Averiana Mitchell and Lauryn Hall, 3-0.
Howard wraps up the fall season in Lynchburg, Va., for the ITA Regionals (Oct. 19-23), hosted by Liberty University.
