Men’s Golf Resumes Fall Slate at the Hamptons Intercollegiate

Bison travel north to the Empire State

WASHINGTON (October 1, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team resumes its fall slate in East Hamptons, N.Y., for the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.). The two-day (Oct. 2-3), 54-hole event takes place at the Maidstone Club (par-72, 6,665 yards). Both days tee off at 7:45 a.m. (ET).

HISTORY
 
Maidstone is one of the premier courses on the East Coast, opening in 1891 before being expanded to 18 holes in 1899; Ben Crenshaw completed extensive renovations on the course in 2012. The club was ranked No. 37 in Golf Magazine's "Top 100 courses in the U.S." and No. 67 in "Top 100 courses of the world."
 
This year will be the fourth playing of the event at Maidstone. Oregon State won the inaugural tournament in 2019 and Virginia won the 2021 and 2022 events.
 
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
 
This year's field includes four teams ranked in Golfweek's Top 50, including Alabama (12), Virginia (15), Ohio State (23) and UCLA (47). Other teams competing features Howard, Loyola, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.
 
Each team will play 36 holes Monday (Oct. 2), followed by 18 holes Tuesday (Oct. 3).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Sept. 18-19, Howard placed eighth overall at the HU-USF Intercollegiate, hosted by the Bison and Dons. The two-day, 54-hole event took place at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
 
Overall, the Bison shot two-over par (866) during the two-day span. Howard shot the second-best round in round two, recording a 10-under par (278).
 
Graduate Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Bison with an impressive performance, shooting seven-under par (209) during the three-round event. In round two, the Virginia native shot a 67 (-5) for HU.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Oct. 9-10, selected individuals will travel to Dallas for the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. The two-day event takes place at the Trinity Forest Golf Club.
