The Bison (8-11, 4-2 in the MEAC) are in sole possession of third place after a convincing 75-54 win over North Carolina Central at home on Saturday. Again, it was the usual suspects who made the difference. Junior guard
Destiny Howell scored a game-high 24 points while backcourt mate, graduate guard
Aziah Hudson tallied 16 points and four assists. Senior forward
Brooklynn Fort-Davis, the team leader in rebounding, grabbed eight boards and contributed five points. Junior guard
Kaniyah Harris had another solid all-around game with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
During the current stretch, the Bison have gotten some much-needed production from
Nyla Cooper and
Nile Miller. A sophomore guard, Cooper came off the bench and scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in 20 minutes. Miller, a freshman forward, scored five points, grabbed six rebounds and recorded a steal and a blocked shot.
In South Carolina State (1-18, 0-4 in the MEAC), Howard faces a young team that is struggling, having dropped eight in a row, the latest a 64-43 loss to Norfolk State on Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by sophomore guards Nicole Gwynn (10.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, leads team in assists with 34), Lovely Sonnier (8.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg, leader team in blocks and steals) and junior guard Nadia Reese (8.1 ppg).
