COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 26, 2026) – The USA Basketball Foundation revealed its 16 scholarship recipients for the Women in the Game conference where Howard University director of basketball operations (DOBO)
Margaree King Richard was among the honorees. The announcement came Thursday.
Women in the Game is a professional development conference for high school, college students and young professionals looking to explore the sports industry or seeking a career in sports. Guest speakers from different areas of the industry will speak on their personal journeys, key characteristics that helped them be successful and advice for those who want to make their own path.
"USA Basketball's Women in the Game is a premier conference that offers future and young professionals in our industry an opportunity to hear from women who have experienced success across many career paths," said
Jennifer Lynne Williams, chief development officer of USA Basketball Foundation. "We are excited to welcome these scholarship recipients and dozens more aspiring women to Phoenix. I would like to thank the USA Basketball Foundation supporters who make this and other opportunities possible."
In 2021, King Richard came to The Mecca after serving as an assistant coach for her alma mater Army West Point where she was a defensive standout for the Black Knights. In 2008, she was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.
In her first season at HU, the Bison won their first MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tournament Title since 2001; thus, securing a berth to the NCAA Tournament. In the inaugural First Four Round, Howard defeated Incarnate Word and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament victory.
This season, HU captured its first outright MEAC regular season championship since 2001 and punched its ticket to the Big Dance after winning the conference tournament title. Additionally, the 26 wins is the most by any Howard team, men or women, in program history.
The USA Basketball Foundation awarded 16 future leaders in sport full scholarships to attend the Women in the Game conference Thursday, April 2, at Arizona State University in Phoenix. Scholarship recipients were selected from nearly 250 applicants and their scholarships, valued at $3,500, include travel, accommodations and conference registration.
Since 2022, the Foundation has awarded more than $115,000 in scholarships and registration grants for women to attend the Women in the Game conference.
Howard looks to build on this year's success for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
