2023-24 [Junior]: Cooper appeared in 30 games, starting 2 ... Averaged 3.6 points per game with a 29.8 FG% ... Ranked 3rd on the team in Three-Point Field Goals Made with 25 ... Grabbed 0.8 rebounds per game ... Recorded 11 assists ... Had 17 steals and 2 blocks throughout the season ... Provided solid perimeter shooting and defensive contributions off the bench.

2022-23 [Sophomore]: Played in 28 games … Was third in the MEAC in 3-point field goal percentage (34.5) … Averaged 4.5 points per game in 12.3 minutes … Made 30 3-pointers, including a season-high four against North Carolina Central on Feb. 25 … Has eight games with at least multiple 3-pointers … Scored in double figures five times … Tallied a season-high 13 points against George Washington on Nov. 14 … Had 12 points each against UMES on Jan. 9 and North Carolina Central on Feb. 25 … Tallied 11 points each against UMES on Feb. 13 and South Carolina State on Feb. 27 … Had 13 steals on the season … Had a season-high four rebounds against George Washington on Feb. 14.

2021-22: Played in 27 games and made five starts … Averaged 4.0 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.3 steals per game … Scored a season-high 17 points against Towson on Nov. 27 and had 16 points against Delaware State on Feb. 12 … In the Towson game, she made five 3-pointers … Made 24 on the season, which was second on the team … She also had 11 points against Delaware State on Feb. 7 and 10 points against North Carolina Central on Feb. 26 … Had a season-high four rebounds against South Carolina State on Feb. 28 … Got two steals against Frostburg State on Jan. 15 … Handed out a season best five assists against Delaware State on Feb. 7 … She helped Howard win 21 games, the MEAC tournament championship, and earn its first NCAA Tournament victory in program history with a win over Incarnate Word … The MEAC tournament championship was Howard’s 11th in program history and first since 2001.
 

"Nyla is a tough, strong combo guard," said Grace. "She is a facilitator with a scorer's mentality that knows how to get people involved while finding her own shot when necessary. In addition, she can shoot the three, which will help us stretch the floor even more."

Off the court, Cooper volunteered with Play4Kay and The Kay Yow Run/Walk for Cancer events to fight and bring awareness to breast cancer. She was also involved with Passage Homes for underprivileged youth.

"She is a great addition to our backcourt," Grace ended. "She has the capability to be a leader on and off the court. Her future is very bright at Howard."


Why Howard:  I chose Howard because I wanted to experience the HBCU lifestyle and energy.

Hobbies/Interest/Goals: Cooper enjoys baking, singing, painting, and playing video games.

High School: Nyla Cooper guided Jack Britt H.S. to its first Sandhills 4-A Conference titles in program history. She averaged 12.3 points, and 3.2 steals en route to winning 24 games, including 16 straight entering the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs. 1st team all-conference, SAC-Conference MVP, District 4 Player of the Year, and 3rd team all-state.
