WASHINGTON (August 26, 2026) - In 2015, Ty Grace was hired to bring prominence to the storied Howard University women's basketball program, which had been a factor in women's college basketball during the 1980's and 90's, but in the years leading up to her arrival, the program had its moments through three different coaches and making the NCAA Tournament just once during that period.
 
Then, Grace arrived at The Hilltop and it did not take her long to return the program back to prominence that it once enjoyed.
 
"Coach Ty has established herself as an exceptional coach, leader and builder of our women's basketball program," praised Vice President and Director of Athletics Kery Davis. "Her success on the court, combined with her commitment to academics and personal development of our student-athletes, reflects the very best of Howard University. We are thrilled to extend her contract as we pursue even greater success on the national stage."
 
The following is a list of her many accomplishments during her tenure:

• Three MEAC Regular Season Championships
• Two MEAC Tournament Titles
• Two NCAA Appearances
• One WNIT bid
• One NCAA Tournament win, the first-ever in program history

 
For her success, Grace has been given a multi-year contract extension.
 
"I would like to sincerely thank Vice President and Director of Athletics Kery Davis, President Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, the Howard University Board of Trustees and Vice President for Student Affairs Cynthia Evers for their continued trust and confidence in me to lead the women's basketball program," said Grace. "It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Howard legacy and I am incredibly proud of what this program represents."
 
Known as a defensive specialist, Grace's teams have consistently ranked among the nation's best in multiple categories, including scoring defense and three-point field goal percentage defense.
 
She has also become an effective recruiter. During her time, Grace has had four MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Players of the Year and four MEAC Rookies of the Year, including the last three winners.
 
She has recorded an impressive 184 victories, placing her second all-time in school history and trailing only MEAC Hall of Famer Sanya Tyler (257).
 
In the past three years, HU has posted 20-plus win seasons, recording a school record 26 wins last season while finishing undefeated at home for the first time in a number of years.
 
It does not end there.
 
Grace led her team to a road win over Power 4 opponent Cincinnati and a home win over NCAA Tournament participant Fairfield. Additionally, the No. 14 seed in this year's Big Dance is the highest in school history.
 
What makes the recording breaking season even more special is that she did it after losing three starters, two of whom were all-conference selections the previous season.
 
"I feel extremely blessed and grateful for the opportunity to continue leading our program and representing this great institution," Grace stated. "To experience success at Howard and have the opportunity to lead this program for this length of time is something I am incredibly proud of—especially in today's ever-changing landscape of college athletics. I am excited about what is ahead and look forward to continuing to build on the foundation we have established, develop our student-athletes, compete at a high level and make the Howard community proud."

"From the day I stepped onto Howard's campus, I have been surrounded by amazing people who have embraced me and supported our women's basketball program," Grace expressed. "The success we have experienced would not have been possible without the incredible commitment of our coaching staff, student-athletes, support staff, the entire Howard community, our alumni and our loyal fans. I am truly grateful for everyone who has invested in our program and believed in what we are building together."
