BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (May 25, 2022) – Howard University graduate
Dylan Beard (Severn, Md.) moved one step closer to Eugene after advancing to Friday's (May 27) NCAA East Preliminary Quarterfinal Round.
Beard competed in the 110-meter hurdles, earning a non AQ time of 13.78, which is his third-fastest mark in the event.
"It was a bit up and down for us out there, but Beard got the job done," said Howard Director of Track and Field
David Oliver. "He's in the mix to punch his ticket to Oregon for the finals."
Beard finished 21
st overall in the opening round after finishing fourth in his heat. North Carolina State's Josh Brockman, Ohio State's Kentre Patterson and Eastern Michigan's Almigthy Williamson secured automatic qualifying times during the heat.
"My plan is to execute and finish my race strong," said Beard. "That's what separated me from being an automatic qualifier in the first round. I expect to run faster Friday and secure a spot to Oregon."
Friday's quarterfinal round is set for 6:15 p.m.
Senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) also competed in the short hurdles but fell short of advancing. The Miami product saw his season come to an end after producing a 14.20 (39
th overall) on the afternoon.
"Unfortunately, Byrd started experiencing back issues that hampered his performance," Oliver stated. "He had a good season and this should springboard him forward for next year."
Florida State's Trey Cunningham posted the best time, recording a new facility record of 13.21.
Thursday (May 26), the Lady Bison continue competition in Bloomington, starting at 2 p.m., with the 100-meter hurdles. HU will also compete in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles.
