Tennis Set to Host a Pair of MEAC Matchups

Bison face Coppin State Friday; HU welcomes Morgan State on Senior Day Saturday

WASHINGTON (March 31, 2022) – Howard University men's and women's tennis teams return home to host a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchups. Friday (April 1), Howard squares off against Coppin State (CSU). The next day (April 2), HU battles Morgan State (MSU) on Senior Day. Both days are scheduled for 2 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center.

HU men (4-5, 2-1 MEAC) look to build on last weekend's win at Hampton, 5-2. Sophomore Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman Tory Bailey (Los Angeles) serve as the team's top two singles players. Recently, both Bison received MEAC weekly honors: Cadeau (MEAC Player of the Week) and Bailey (MEAC Rookie of the Week).
 
On the women's side (6-3, 3-0 MEAC), they are seeking to remain unblemished in conference play. Newcomer Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) enters with a 6-3 singles mark and recently named MEAC Player of the Week.
 
COPPIN STATE
 
CSU men enter with a 1-9 mark (1-2 MEAC). Luka Markovic serves as the club's No. 1 singles player.
 
On the women's side, they are looking for their first win of the season (0-11, 0-4 MEAC). Lucia Placidi comes in as the team's top singles player.
 
MORGAN STATE
 
MSU men (6-5, 2-1 MEAC) ride a two-match win streak with victories over North Carolina Central, 5-2, and Loyola (Md.), 5-2. Mikeal Carpenter leads the Bears with a 5-4 mark (6-4 overall) as the club's No. 1 singles player.
 
For the women (4-6-1, 3-0 MEAC), they are looking to remain unbeaten in the league play.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Saturday (March 26), both squads defeated long-time rival Hampton.
 
The men took down Hampton in the latest chapter of the Battle of the Real HU, defeating the Pirates, 5-2, while the women extended its win streak to four after cruising past the Lady Pirates, 6-1.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On April 9, both clubs face Navy in Annapolis, Md. Match time is set for 10 a.m. The next day (April 10), the women take on Delaware State at Banneker Recreation Center. First-serve at 2 p.m.
