NORFOLK, Va. (March 23, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's tennis weekly accolades where Howard University freshman
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) won the league's Rookie of the Week. The announcement came Wednesday.
At the MEAC Round Up (March 17-19), Grayson went a perfect 6-0 (3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles) while propelling the Bison to an unbeaten 3-0 mark in conference play.
She served as the Bison's No. 1 singles player, defeating Norfolk State's Aleksandra Evdokimova (0-6, 6-2, 6-2), South Carolina State's Rachida Berjane (6-2, 7-6 [7-4]) and North Carolina Centrals' Jade Houston (7-6 [8-6], 6-1).
Grayson partnered with fellow classmate
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) where the duo won all three doubles contests in North Carolina.
On the season, the Maryland native is 5-3 in singles play and 6-1 in doubles competition.
Freshman
Marcel Dawson (Midland, Ga.) received honorable mention.
Morgan State freshman Hannah Smith was selected MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
For the men, North Carolina Central senior Sebastian Pino was named MEAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week while Morgan State's Niles Rachal claimed Rookie of the Week.
On March 26, Howard goes on the road to meet Hampton in the Battle of the Real HU. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
