COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 19, 2022) – Howard University junior thrower
Christopher Bratcher (Richmond, Va.) reset the school's shot put record at the Maryland Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland.
Bratcher threw nearly 52 feet (15.76 meters), eclipsing the previous record held by Rajae Gayle in 2014 (15.26 meters). Overall, the Virginia native placed fourth in the event.
Freshmen
Kyle Fisher and
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) finished first (6.88 meters) and second (6.77 meters), respectively, in the long jump. Drewery also placed second in the triple jump, leaping over 47 feet (14.38 meters).
Other notable field performers include senior
Mekhi Abbott (Monroe, N.J.) earning third in the javelin while third-year Bison
Ezra Monteiro (New Port, R. I.) taking second in the hammer throw (47.39 meters).
On the track, graduate
Dylan Beard (Severn, Md.), seniors
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) and
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) and junior
Richard Ninamou (Louisville) won the 4x100 relay, clocking in at 41.06.
Ninamou and Daniel competed in the 100-meter dash, placing second (11.12) and third (11.15), respectively. Daniel also took part in the 200-meter dash, earning third place with a 22.24 time.
Beard, Byrd and senior
Kameron Davis (Miami) went first (14.44), second (14.53) and third (14.68), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.
Byrd, Davis, fellow classmate
Corinthians Payne (Apopka, Fla.) and junior
Cameron Kee (Lawnside, N.J.) finished third overall in the 4x400 relay, recording a 3:19.93 mark.
Individually, Payne and Kee claimed first (54.10) and second (54.19), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.
Other notable runners include senior
Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) winning the 1500-meter run (4:03.54) and fellow classmate
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) placing first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:02.05).
Next weekend, the program will be split into two groups. One group will travel to Austin, Texas for the 94
th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (March 23-26), hosted by the Longhorns. The other will head to Raleigh, N.C., for the annual Raleigh Relays (March 24-26), hosted by the Wolfpack.
